This basic principle is what makes hydraulic jacks so effective. These types of jacks move oil through both cylinders using a pump plunger. Initially, the plunger is drawn back, which then opens the suction valve ball that is inside it and oil is drawn into the pump chamber. As the plunger is thrust frontward, the oil moves into the cylinder chamber via an external discharge check valve. Then, the suction valve closes, causing pressure to build in the cylinder.
